Defending champions Karachi Kings have been knocked out of PSL 6 after losing to defending champions Karachi Kings Peshawar Zalmi in the first eliminator of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Hazratullah Zazai’s aggressive batting in pursuit of the 176-run target gave the Peshawar Kings a good start of 49 overs but after hitting two fours in the same over, Kamran Akmal gave the wicket to Afghan sniper Noor Ahmed. From the other end, Zazai completed a half-century but Imam-ul-Haq, despite playing 17 balls, scored only 11 runs and gave the wicket to Thisara Perera. Perera got the important wicket of Zazai in his next over who hit 5 sixes and 10 fours off 38 balls. Usman Khalid came to the aid of Shoaib Malik and both of them batted well and formed a partnership of 52 runs to bring their team very close to the target but then both the batsmen scored 30 and 17 runs respectively. In the last over, Zalmi needed 7 runs to win but the Karachi Kings fielder dropped two important catches to dampen his team’s hopes of victory and Zalmi won the match by 5 wickets after a thrilling contest. ۔ With this victory, the journey of defending champion Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League came to an end and Peshawar Zalmi will play against Islamabad United today to reach the final. Earlier, in the first eliminator of the league being played in Abu Dhabi, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and invited Karachi Kings to bat. Openers Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam gave their team a 41-run lead after which Sharjeel, who scored 26, lost his wicket. In the next over, Ameed Asif caught Martin Guptill from New Zealand by Kamran Akmal. Babar along with Danish scored 73 runs but due to the pressure of not scoring fast runs, Danish Aziz lost the wicket in an attempt to play a big shot. Babar Azam was seen struggling throughout the innings and could not bat openly at any point, he could score only 53 runs off 45 balls.
Pereira picked up the pace and Khalid Usman scored 22 runs in one over and played an innings of 37 off 18 balls but Ameed Asif made him walk while Chadwick Walton scored only 9 runs. In the closing overs, Karachi Kings batsmen including Emad Wasim displayed aggressive batting, thanks to which the defending champions scored 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated overs. The losing team in today’s match will be eliminated from the tournament while the winning team will face Islamabad United tomorrow to make it to the final.
